welcome to blackgirlgrown!
blackgirlgrown is a concept borne out of endless internet surfing for credible information on challenges facing women in their 30s and 40s generally, and black women specifically. The name is derived from a dear friend who, in the face of challenges and obstacles, would say, “it’s time to put your big girl pants on.” Simply put, we’re all grown up, and responsibility isn’t a choice, it is a requirement.
What you will not find on blackgirlgrown are entertainment news, celebrity gossip, or happy hour and party promoting. No knock on websites and blogs that feature this content – we all need healthy diversions, but blackgirlgrown seeks to focus on a clear set of challenges and opportunities.

What is blackgirlgrown?
blackgirlgrown is a collective of experiences, women, and resources for women of color as we mature.
Is blackgirlgrown just for black women?
No, while blackgirlgrown is focused on the needs of mature women of color, the resources and information provided are valuable to anyone looking to improve their well-being and lot in life. We encourage all women, and men for that matter, to use us as a resource and join the blackgirlgrown community.
How did the name, blackgirlgrown, originate?
The name, blackgirlgrown, comes from numerous conversations with girlfriends who insisted we accept that we are "grown" women and the challenges that come with it. Regardless of the situation, whether it is dealing with aging parents, trying to negotiate salary requirements, or battling breast cancer, it was time to put our "big girl" pants. Thus, blackgirlgrown is a state of mind when you realize you must grow in order to survive.
What does blackgirlgrown hope to accomplish?
No real lofty goals. Mostly, to provide a portal for women seeking to grow beyond their current limitations and circumstances whether it be getting that promotion, learning to balance a checkbook, knowing what questions to ask the doctor, or becoming politically engaged.
