Saddest Thing I’ve Read in A Long Time

I reside in the District of Columbia, our nation’s Capitol. And while DC and Official Washington are steps from each other, it seems as if they’re worlds apart. Official Washington’s roads are clean, monuments welcome tourists, and the economy is bustling. In DC, crime is rampant, the unemployment rate is staggering, and regard for one another is desperately low.

Which brings me to the following story. NBC Washington writes

At first, it appeared to be a doll lying on a step, outside the fence of a house in the 3000 block of Channing Street NE.

But something didn’t seem right to Emmanuel Dugger, a neighbor walking by just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday, and he ran to get his father, Eugene.

“I was in shock, so I had to grab somebody else to make sure I wasn’t seeing things,” he said.

What they found wasn’t a doll, but a baby girl, left naked and partially covered by a thin towel. It was 25 degrees at the time.

What the hell? Unfortunately, this beautiful baby girl was dead. Her life was snuffed out likely by the woman that birthed  her or an adult that was responsible for her care.

A complete disregard for one another. It is bad enough that we don’t care about each other. But how can you call yourself a child of God or a human being and leave a baby out in the cold.

God help us all. And God rest her little soul.
