Music and Mental Health

Music has always been soothing to my soul.  No matter the tribulation, task, or terribleness, music was my way to power through the pain – whether physical or mental.  Music allowed me refuge and permission to let out whatever emotions were bottled up inside. 

Suffice it to say, music has a calming effect that prevents me from going crazy. 

My music of choice to escape a thousand miles from my mind…The Buena Vista Social Club.  It allows me to escape to the beaches of Cuba and feel like a little girl watching my abuelito play checkers with his friends.

Definitely good for the soul, but also good for my health.

A recent Swedish study suggests that cultural activities, like listening to music, going to a museum, or seeing a play improve your mental health.
