This Week in Washington: June 21, 2010

The White House:  After a not so stellar speech to the nation, President Obama bounced back this week after securing a $20 billion (yeah, that’s with a B) escrow account from BP to make gulf coast residents whole.  The President used his weekly address to rail against Republicans blocking progress.  Something tells us we’ll hear lots more on this theme leading up to the November elections.  This week, President Obama will participate in a Father’s Day event here in Washington, DC and travel to Canada for the G-8 summit.

The U.S. Senate:   In addition to judicial nominations, the Senate will likely try again to pass a modified bill that would extend expired tax breaks and social safety-net programs.   The Senate might also consider a bill to establish a small-business lending fund.

The U.S. House of Representatives:   In addition to non-controversial items on the suspension calendar, the House will consider legislation on calling card regulations and campaign finance disclosure requirements (in response to a recent Supreme Court ruling).   The House may also work on a war spending bill.
