The White House: President Obama used his weekly address to remind us why we get Memorial Day off, to remember and honor our men and women in uniform who have died in service to the country. So think about that as you’re eating BBQ and sipping on beers today. This week, President Obama will focus on the continuing BP oil spill amid reports that the “top kill” maneuver wasn’t enough to stop the oil from gushing. Oh, and President Obama will host Sir Paul McCartney for a White House concert. I’m assuming my invite is lost in the mail.
The U.S. Congress: Both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate are enjoying the Memorial Day recess, most back home in their respective states trying to get re-elected. But before heading out of town, the House repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, a ban on gays serving openly in the military.
