Irregardless

Regardless of what you have heard, “irregardless” is NOT a word,  it is a redundancy.

The suffix “-less” on the end of the word already makes the word negative. It doesn’t need the negative prefix “ir-” added to make it even more negative.

Recognize.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! There are so many non-words and mispronounced words in circulation, but I'm glad you honed in on this oft-used lexical train wreck. I admit that when I hear people utter this (non-) word, my interest in, or attention to, what they have to say drops precipitously.

Hearing someone say “irregardless” is akin to hearing fingernails on a chalkboard. Seriously.
