Unwritten Rules for Women in the Workplace

Kudos to Essence for its recent blog on the unwritten rules for women in the workplace by Ann Daly.  We can all relate to these rules whether we agree with them or not.

More often than not the simple fact that you’re a woman in the workplace means you’re treated differently than your male counterparts. You could be the hardest working go-getter in your office, but if you, like a lot of women, aren’t making your boss aware of your accomplishments, you may be sabotaging your own career prospects, says executive coach and author Ann Daly, PhD, who points out that overall women continue to be underpaid, taking home just 78% of the salaries that men do.

Ann Daly goes on to outline 9 rules (or constants) of the workplace for women some of which include:
  • Men get the benefit of the doubt
  • Men are bred for self-confidence, (women are not?)
  • Women don’t take charge, they take care
Read all of the rules along with explanations at Essense.  Can you relate?  What rules are missing?

Have You Read?

  • As today we known women are equal with men. But is it true in every case? I don’t agree with this. Because still women are back in men dominated world. During recession many female employers lost their job. After pregnancy it is very difficult for women to get a suitable job. As we known women can do anything as men can, but why this partiality is going on till? We can develop our society and community only when each woman is educated and self independent about their career. I came to known, one job portal http://naukriforwomen.com that brought a revolution towards women empowerment. We hope it will live our expectation.
