Did President Obama say what you needed to hear?  Answer our poll below and tell us WHY in the comments section!

President Obama: One year ago, I took office amid two wars, an economy rocked by severe recession, a financial system on the verge of collapse, and a government deeply in debt.  Experts from across the political spectrum warned that if we did not act, we might face a second depression.  So we acted – immediately and aggressively.  And one year later, the worst of the storm has passed.

State of the Union 2010: Did President Obama address the issues most important to you?

The President came out strong but he also seemed to be trying to appeal to republicans and independants. Still, it seemed OBVIOUS to me that Republicans aren't trying to be bipartisan.

The President didn't lead with “the state of our union is strong.” Instead, he chose to highlight difficult moments in our history and discuss the current challenges the nation faces, and then he reminded the American people of our reslience. I thought that was highly effective. I'm glad he led with jobs and the economy, as those are the predominant issues of concern to voters. I am gratified by his commitment to health care reform and appreciate his leadership on that issue. He continues to leave the door open for Republicans to join him but, unfortunately, they're content to stay on the path of “no” and don't seem all that concerned about the uninsured — even as they enjoy the best health insurance money has to buy. I love that he said he won't walk away from the issue. Those who question his resolve do so at their own peril! I liked that he implored both parties to bring back civility to the discourse. He reminded everyone that “no” is not leadership. Solid! I thought the entire speech was strong but his closing remarks were the strongest I've heard from a President in a long time: “I don't quit.” Overall, I give the speech an A! It's hard to see how Republicans can challenge it! Suffice it to say, I was VERY proud of President Obama tonight. For those who wonder, let me just say he's got his mojo back!

I believe he did mention Haiti — referenced a child's letter; talked about Americans going there to help with rescue efforts; etc.

The President gave a great speech and clearly offered a solid set of solutions to the larger issues. But I agree with Sonyers, the President also seemed to be trying to appeal to the Republics but the Republicans aren't trying to be bi-partisan. Unfortunately I think it will be politics as usual.

The President did a great job challenging Democrats and Republicans on behalf of his agenda and the American people. I especially liked when he laid out several conservative agenda items he wanted to get accomplished this year. This will obviously put the Republicans on the defensive if they don’t support. In my opinion this was President Obama doing his version of a President Reagan impression. He put both party’s on notice as it relates to over the top partisanship, which should increase his poll numbers and hopefully get some quality legislation passed in Washington. Good job Mr. President. Now the real work begins.
