This Week in Washington: January 25, 2010

The White House: President Obama used his weekly address to discuss the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that overruled government’s ability to restrict corporations and unions from funding campaign ads.  This week, President Obama gears up for his first State of the Union address on Wednesday, January 27, 2010.

The U.S. Senate: The U.S. Senate will vote on judicial nominations and continue debate on a measure to increase the federal debt limit, with votes on amendments beginning Tuesday.  Hearings continue on the thwarted Christmas Day attack along with a hearing on aid to Haiti.

The U.S. House of Representatives: The House returns on Tuesday to vote on a number of non-controversial suspension bills along with legislation to provide emergency aid to U.S. survivors of the earthquake in Haiti.

U.S. Government’s Response to Haiti Earthquake: The White House blog provides nearly daily updates on the U.S. government’s response to the earthquake in Haiti.  Additionally, Congress passed, and the President signed into law, legislation that provides 2009 tax year deductions for charitable contributions made in response to the Haiti earthquake.
