Not Feeling Quite Festive?

You’re not alone.  Holidays and birthdays are supposed to be joyous occasions.  But for some of us it is a stock-taking of the year gone by.  And we are never kind to ourselves in appreciating our progress despite the many shortcomings we recount over and over again.

It reminded me of an email I sent a girlfriend on her birthday. My birthday wish to her:

Quit your b*tching, complaining, sulking, or whatever stage of mal humor you’re in.

Having a birthday is much better than the alternative.

Don’t let your ego get in the way of knowing that your destiny and steps are guided by God.

Appreciate that blessing – that you’ve been given more time.

And since we never know how long it will last, appreciate the present like the gift it is.

The same could be said for celebrating another Christmas or bringing in a new year. Time is all we have. And though it is hard to appreciate in the moment, we owe it to ourselves and our Creator to do so.

My only request to her..to always remind me of the same.
