Do You Really Need A Landline Telephone?

telephoneI must admit I haven’t answered my home phone in months it seems.  The only people who call me at home are people I don’t know.  These include telemarketers, rogue bill collectors looking for some strange man that doesn’t live in my house, and wrong number callers.

I typically check my home voicemail once it gets into the 10-15 messages range.  And true to form, no one had called that actually knew me.  In fact, I don’t think my mother even knows my home phone number.  I’ve had the same mobile number for more than 10 years.  In her mind, there is no need to know any other number.

So the question becomes, is it still worth keeping my landline?

Thrifty Mommy over at Bliss Tree shares my query and outlines some pros and cons of dropping the landline altogether and in the end, she happily unplugged.

Believe me, I could find a better use for $50 and some change.

Part of me held on to the remote idea that I might need to send a fax one day.  Adobe PDF has fixed that.  But I still feel like I need to keep the old school landline.

The simmering paranoid in me wondered if the police would be able to find me if someone broke into my house, again.  But the simmering paranoid in me also knows that cell phones have tracking software.  Technology is getting better every day.

But I’m still holding on.  I can’t seem to cut the cord.  At least not yet.  Maybe next year.
