The White House: The focus remains on health care reform along with recent economic news and the stimulus. President Obama used his weekly address to cite the recent turnaround in the gross domestic product and that the Recovery Act has now created or saved more than a million jobs – though the number of “jobs created” has been disputed by Republicans and news articles. This week, President Obama will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, discuss strengthening our nation’s educational system, and oversee the White House Tribal Nations Conference.
The U.S. Senate: Senators will finish up consideration of legislation to extend unemployment compensation. Senate committees will take a look at the rising costs of health care for small businesses, legislation to prevent the discrimination of homosexuals in the workplace, and October 2009 job data.
The U.S. House of Representatives: Last week, House Democrats introduced their new health care reform package with great fanfare. Republicans, of course, had a difference in opinion. This week, House Democrats hope to pass their bill.
