applianceCash for Clunkers may have expired but free money from the government remains for buyers of energy-efficient appliances.

Funded at $300 million by the stimulus bill earlier this year, the program will offer rebates to buyers of energy-efficient appliances and other products that carry the Energy Star label.

According to the Department of Energy, consumers can expect between $50 and $200 in rebates towards the purchase of refrigerators, dishwashers, furnaces, air conditioners and other appliances.

Money should start flowing to the public in November.

Good news given we’re in the market for a new hot water heater.
