President Obama used his weekly addressto discuss first steps toward bridging the differences on energy policy and health care reform. A long way to go remains. Fresh from giving the Notre Dame commencement address and Democratic fundraisers, this week the President will meet with new foreign ambassadors, recognize small business leaders, and give a major speech on the detention of enemy combatants at Guantanamo Bay. If that wasn’t enough fun, President Obama will also welcome Superbowl XLIII champion Pittsburgh Steelers to the White House. We’ll assume our invite got lost in the mail.
The Senate will continue to try and pass credit card reform legislation (yes, the debate continues) with the goal being for President Obama to sign it before the Memorial Day Recess.
The U.S. House of Representatives will follow suit, debating mortgage fraud legislation.
Both the House and Senate are eager to finish up quickly in order to begin the Memorial Day Work (some call vacation or campaign) period.
