Shortly after President Obama’s election, there was lots of Internet chatter on the need for historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) and organizations like the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). No matter my personal qualms about the NAACP’s focus and relevance, I am hard pressed to believe that the advancement of one colored person justifies the end of the entire civil rights organization.

The President used his weekly address to announce two new appointments: Jeffrey Zients as Chief Performance Officer and Aneesh Chopra as Chief Technology Officer. Before heading south to the Summit of Americas, President Obama made quite a stir with his announcement on relaxing U.S. policy with Cuba. Don’t book a flight just yet, regular travel hasn’t been relaxed. While at the Summit of Americas in Trinidad and Tobago, President Obama did the grip and grin with Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez. This week the President will present the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy to the Naval Academy football team at the White House and travel to Iowa for Earth Day.

Those lessons are passion, perspective and place.

The Internets have been running tax articles in contant rotation, all designed for procrastinators like us to get it in gear by April 15th because average Americans like you and me WILL get in deep trouble for not filing. Unlike the folks running the government in Washington, DC, we have no Obama card to play with the IRS.

The Importance of the RSVP

There is nothing more unnerving than planning a party only to be unsure about who is actually coming. You try your best to add RSVP information but for some reason, some people just don’t get it. RSVP means, “let a sista know if you’re going to show up, or not.” So, in the interest of social decorum (I’m still learning myself) and social order, let’s review the meaning and importance of the RSVP.
