This Week in Washington: April 27,2009

The White House: All eyes are on President Obama this week as he marks his first 100 days in office on April 30th. The cable news media will be up in a lather grading him and his Administration. President Obama will be busy this week greeting visitors at the White House including NCAA Championship University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball Team, the National Teacher of the Year, and foreign and economic ministers visiting for the recent International Monetary Fund meetings. President Obama will also hold a nationally televised news conference on Wednesday evening.

The U.S. Senate: This week, the U.S. Senate will deliberate on S. 386, the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act (FERA) of 2009. The legislation seeks to improve enforcement of fraud in mortgages, securities, and financial institutions, as well as fraud related to federal assistance and relief programs.

The U.S. House of Representatives: The House is expected to consider two major bills this week, H.R. 1913, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 and H.R. 627, the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights Act of 2009.
