The White House:   The President used his weekly address to announce two new appointments: Jeffrey Zients as Chief Performance Officer and Aneesh Chopra as Chief Technology Officer.  Before heading south to the Summit of Americas, President Obama made quite a stir with his announcement on relaxing U.S. policy with Cuba. Don’t book a flight just yet, regular travel hasn’t been relaxed. While at the Summit of Americas in Trinidad and Tobago, President Obama did the grip and grin with Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez. This week the President will present the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy to the Naval Academy football team at the White House and travel to Iowa for Earth Day.

The U.S. Senate:  After a two week hiatus, the Senate will return to Washington and focus on confirmation of Obama Administration nominees, including President Obama’s pick for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius.  Governor Sebelius was President Obama’s second pick after former Senator Tom Daschle’s withdrawal due to “tax issues.”

The U.S. House of Representatives:  Also returning from the district work period, the House of Representatives has a pretty light schedule on the House floor with the usual consideration of non-controversial suspension calendar items.   However, House committees are busy preparing legislation on consumer credit and mortgage legislation.
