The media (and government) is in a frenzy about the “swine flu” pandemic. If only they could be this focused on greater threats to public health and safety. But it is important to have some perspective (and facts) so that you can preserve your health and navigate the mixed media messages.

Brian Taylor of Penny Politics reviews President Obama’s first 100 Days: We have seen a date set for the closing of Guantanamo Bay Prison, the passing of the Ledbetter bill for equal pay for women, SCHIP health care plan for children, the largest spending bill in this country’s history, the G-20 Summit, pirates, a hand shake heard around the world (see Chavez), several bailouts, the word “NO” (see Republican opposition), a couple of memos about torture, and to cap everything off a new member of the Democratic party in the Senate (see Democratic Senator Arlen Specter).
Specter to Republicans: Moderate or Die

Yesterday, Republican Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania made big news by announcing he is now Democratic Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania. In avoiding a nasty primary challenge from the Republican right in Pennsylvania who insist on ideological purity over substance, Arlen Specter opted to become a Democrat. This morning, he was welcomed with open arms by President Obama and Vice President Biden. What a nice gift for his first 100 days in office!

Since the break-in I’ve been looking for ways to get reacquainted with my house. It’s weird in some ways, almost like dating. All of the vulnerabilities with living in a new home come back, and you’ve got to get used to knowing where everything is, and importantly that it remains where you put it. As [...]

If there is one thing that is certain in this universe, it is karma. Karma is a simple concept that can be appreciated by all, not just those in search of a new religion. It is based off of the simple premise that what you put out into the universe, you get back. Good or [...]

The subject of Rihanna, Chris Brown, and domestic abuse has been covered here. But it seems quite odd that in an attempt to bury any further coverage of the beat down Rihanna has announced she is embarking on a “girl power” tour with fellow R&B vixens Ciara and Keyshia Cole.

No one can deny the power, value, and inspiration of First Lady Michelle Obama. The woman is the epitome of what the modern black woman is, or aspires to be: professionally accomplished, secure in her skin and her shape, and comfortable playing her role whether its leading or following President Obama. And all while staying in shape and attentively raising two beautiful daughters.
How Does One Celebrate Earth Day?

Today is Earth Day. So we’re supposed to go forth and save the planet. Unlike other holidays and awareness days, its kind of difficult to know what you’re supposed to be doing. On Halloween, you go trick-or-treating. On Valentine’s Day, you buy cards and stale chocolate. For heart disease awareness in women, you wear red. You can’t wear green, that’s for St. Patrick’s Day. Novelty aside, its tough to know how you can make a difference, and to know if you’re actually making a difference. NBC just suggested that I brush my teeth without running the faucet. How does that save the earth? Not being silly, just trying to understand the impact.
